Abstract

The correspondence between Heinrich Bullinger and Philip Melanchthon, this essay argues, offers important insights into the relationship between these two reformers as well as into the relations between the two centers of the reformation they represent. As the author takes into account the enduring character of this correspondence as well as its contents, he suggests that the letters between Bullinger and Melanchthon not only showcase Zurich’s continuous importance for protestant estates and theologians in the Holy Roman Empire, but also call for a re-examination of the processes of the reception of reformation thought.
